Loneliness and social disconnection are major public health issues, affecting 1 in 3 Australians (World Health Organization, 2025).
Loneliness has a critical impact on quality of life, health and wellbeing. At Happy Paws Happy Hearts (HPHH), we see how even the smallest moments of connection can spark positive change and become a catalyst for life-changing transformation. While true connection takes time and effort, it often begins with something small—a smile, a kind word, or an unexpected act of support.
HPHH was founded with the mission to shift participants from social disconnection and isolation to inclusion and wellbeing by connecting them with rescue animals in need.
Why Connection Matters
The recent ‘From Loneliness to Social Connection’ report from Ending Loneliness Together and the World Health Organization (2025), shows that 1 in 3 Australians experience social disconnection, with young people aged 18–24 the most affected—a cohort which makes up over half of all HPHH participants.
We’re especially dedicated to reaching more young people in need of social connection.
Our focus is supporting participants on their journey from isolation and disconnection to social inclusion and wellbeing. Through shared smiles, a wagging tail, gentle encouragement and quiet acts of courage, participants begin to rebuild confidence and form meaningful connections with themselves, the animals, others and their community. Through our “return to life” approach, this journey fosters greater independence, vocational readiness, and a renewed sense of purpose and belonging.
