Sunshine, Sand & A Job Well Done
Recently in one of our Basics sessions at our Toowoomba campus, a special moment was shared between participant Darren and senior Australian Cattle dog, Sash.
Darren and his fellow Basics participants enjoyed the agility yard with Sash—one of the most vibrant and joy-filled spaces on campus.
The agility yard boasts a big sand pit, agility course with tyres and ramps, and of course a large sail to deliver some cool shade from the sun. After an energetic session of play, Sash happily settled into the sandpit—relaxed, content and enjoying a well-earned rest.
For playful working breeds like Sash, time in the agility yard offers more than just exercise. Exploring different textures like sand and grass, engaging their senses, and burning off energy creates positive experiences while they wait for their forever homes.
For Darren, these moments are equally powerful. HPHH Program Trainer, Emily, reflected on Darren’s natural affinity and connection with animals, which for her, is a pleasure to witness in sessions each week. Seeing Sash calm, comfortable and content after playing reinforced to Darren the purpose he and his fellow participants bring each week—supporting the wellbeing of animals in care.
