Small Tasks, Big Impact

Eliana (L) and Samantha (R) preparing adoption packs with special guest, Scout, checking quality!

At our Ten Lives Cat Centre location, participants Eliana and Samantha have recently taken on a valued role supporting the shelter's sales and marketing team. Every Monday afternoon, the pair spend the final part of their session preparing adoption packs for families of the shelter cats and kittens who find their new homes in the week ahead.

These packs contain important resources, information and special offers to help new feline family members get off to the best possible start together. Each week, Eliana and Samantha independently print, trim, sort and collate around 40 adoption packs.

Adding charm to their weekly routine is the company of the ‘marketing office cat’, Special Supervisor, Scout, who ensures the utmost quality output for his feline friends.

Through this role, both participants are building practical vocational skills and confidence in their abilities to contribute, both making a meaningful difference to the daily operations of the shelter. Their work helps ensure adopters have the information and support they need, while playing a role in the positive outcomes for cats in their new homes.

Their commitment has been inspiring for HPHH Program Trainer, Juliana to witness, sharing a particularly special moment of growth for participant Samantha.

“Samantha has shown remarkable determination”, Juliana shares.

Samantha has always expressed her feelings of discomfort for certain surfaces, particularly with paper. While this may seem like a simple challenge, the discomfort she experiences can impact some of the activities in the program, particularly for crafts.

As with all HPHH sessions, participants are always provided meaningful ways to engage in activities which are comfortable to them and suited to their abilities.

To HPHH Program Trainer, Juliana’s delight, instead of choosing not to take part, Samantha worked through a meaningful and practical solution by wearing gloves, allowing her to positively engage in this activity in a way which was comfortable for her.

“I am incredibly proud of Samantha”, Juliana shares.

Together, Samantha and Eliana have taken great pride in their dynamic duo efforts of ensuring the shelter is always stocked with packs ready for new families.

In a fitting full-circle moment, Scout has since been adopted and was able to head home with one of the very adoption packs Eliana and Samantha helped prepare, getting a first-whisker experience into his quality control efforts.

This simple yet meaningful weekly task captures the impact of purposeful responsibility which HPHH endeavours to promote across the programs. While helping cats begin their next chapter, Eliana and Samantha, among their peers, are building confidence in their own abilities, demonstrating how small tasks can create lasting outcomes for both hearts and paws.
