Feed the Kitty – Building Bonds at Ten Lives

During a recent Ten Lives session, two participants—one shy and reserved, the other lively and outgoing—found common ground through an unexpected moment of connection: a playful challenge to beat an HPHH volunteer, Ros, at the card game, Feed the Kitty.
In the game, the two participants who teamed up against Ros took turns drawing cards, strategically trying to avoid “kitty mischief” cards and ultimately collect the most cat-themed tokens—creating a fun, fast-paced competition that had everyone laughing and cheering.
Wendy, the local Program Trainer, shared how this small moment reflected something much bigger:
“You could see the shift – the quieter one started laughing, the louder one became more patient, holding space for the other, and together they found their rhythm. It was a simple game, but it opened the door to the beginning of a special connection, albeit in the name of some friendly competition”.
Through patience, playful rivalry, and shared success, a new friendship started to take shape – showing how even the smallest activities in program sessions can spark meaningful connections.
