A Shared Interest Sparks Growth

In Mackay, participants Josh and Dean have found more than just a project — they’ve found common ground, connection, and purpose.

What started as a shared interest has turned into something meaningful, as the pair teamed up to revive the worm farm just outside their session room at RSPCA Mackay.

Together, they researched worm care and sustainable waste management, rebuilt the system from scratch, and now take full ownership of its upkeep — from regular monitoring to speaking up in the group to educate others about the worms’ role in reducing food waste.

Along the way, they’ve not only grown in confidence and independence, but have built a solid friendship through a project they’re proud to share.
