From animal lover to proud three-legged dog parent thanks to HPHH

Oliwia joined HPHH to help animals that are suffering, inspired by their love of the RSPCA and watching TV shows related to animal rescue. Since joining HPHH nearly 1.5 years ago, they have progressed through our programs, currently attending two weekly sessions where they learn to handle and care for animals.

Their favourite thing about the program is spending time with various animals and learning how to handle them with their class, which they say has become like a family.

“It’s a non-judgmental space where you can just have fun and learn about animals,” Oliwia says.

Oliwia loves big dogs, especially Great Danes, especially when they get the opportunity to interact with them in sessions. As if it were meant to be, a beautiful three-legged Great Dane named Edwina found her way into our program – it was love at first sight for both human and dog.

After working with Edwina for a few weeks in her HPHH sessions, Oliwia says it was obvious she was a very sweet-natured, friendly, people-oriented dog who just wanted to be loved and join a family.

“Since the first time I met her, she just wanted to play, and she was so sweet. Every time I met her, I felt like she kind of remembered me, and I got to know her a little bit more each time,” Oliwia says.

“I started to love how sweet she was. She would just sit next to me, and it felt like she kind of chose me as well.”

Feeling their connection grow stronger and stronger with each session, Oliwia decided to adopt Edwina from the RSPCA Wacol Campus. Both of their lives have changed forever, thanks to the connection they made at HPHH.

“Now, I’m going out more often, walking her every day, going to dog cafes, going on bush walks and buying cute stuff for her. I’m treating her like the baby of the family,” Oliwia says.

Since joining HPHH, Oliwia has gained experience and knowledge about animals, and her confidence has grown substantially.

“I was not confident speaking around people, but now I’ve gotten a lot more comfortable with interacting around people,” Oliwia says.

HPHH makes them feel excited and eager to keep coming back. Oliwia said they can’t wait for the future and what else will happen.

“I've learned a lot more about dog training and how to keep a dog,” Oliwia says.

“When it comes to learning how to become an animal attendant, I’ve learned a lot because that’s definitely something that I’m striving for.”
