Gru’s Journey: From RSPCA Mackay to RSPCA Wacol

Hello, I’m Gru. I’m a 5 year 9-month-old greyhound. I used to be a racing greyhound, but thankfully, I’ve left that life behind me. I’m a retired gentleman now looking for my forever humans to live out the rest of my days. I love to lie down on the couch, on the bed, and on the floor... I’ll chill just about anywhere. Will I go for a walk? Yeah, but just a quick one so I can get back to lying on the couch!

I arrived at the RSPCA Mackay in April 2023. I can be anxious in new environments, but after some time, I started attending sessions at Happy Paws Happy Hearts (HPHH) in Mackay. I got lots of pets and treats from the participants, so I always enjoyed my time with them. Those people are really cool!

After 4 months in the shelter, I was adopted by a family on 6 August. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a match, so they returned me to the RSPCA Mackay on 25 August. After this, the team at RSPCA decided that I might find my people in Brisbane. So, I made the journey down to the big smoke. I’ve been living at RSPCA Wacol since then.

I started attending HPHH in Wacol, and I’m loving it! I’m very quiet and gentle, so I get on well with all the participants. I’m food motivated, so if they have treats in their bags, I can sniff them out. I’m always happy if I’ve got a yummy treat.

I’ve even met some other dogs at RSPCA Wacol. Some of them are cool, some of them are too much for me. I not too fond of dogs that are too loud or startle me. I prefer chill dogs... because I’m a chill dog. They need to be on a similar wavelength to get on with me.

I’m still waiting to find my family, but until then, you can find me at RSPCA Wacol, either in my pen or in an HPHH session. If you have another dog, that’s not a dealbreaker for me! I’d love to meet them to see if we’re compatible. But if you have small children, I might not be the dog for you, unfortunately.

Before I sign off and return to napping, I want to give a huge shoutout to a wonderful human. Hayley is a volunteer at HPHH and visited my old crew in Mackay. They told her about me, and when she saw me at Wacol, she came and said ‘hi’ and sent photos to my old friends. She’s really cool.
